3 Easy Tips to Look Great in Your Vacation Photos
First, use the flash, even if you are in sunlight or don’t need a flash. This rule applies when the human subject is within 5-10 feet of the camera. If necessary, move closer to the human subject if the flash isn’t reaching. It is ideal for a 6 feet distance to the human subject. The flash will wash out wrinkles and imperfections, giving a fresher appearance, less likely to need retouching.
Second, don’t face your body head on to the camera like an army tank. Pose with one foot in front and lean all of your weight on your back foot with hips diagonal rather than even to the camera. You will look slimmer than you are, and taller as well. Putting the foot forward lengthens the body for the camera and shifting weight on the back leg will conceal some of the excess mass. Models do this ALL THE TIME because it works.
Lastly, always SMILE! Everyone looks better smiling. If you tour a concentration camp like Dachau in Germany, you can skip the smile but otherwise, on a holiday, if you look like you are enjoying yourself, it will definitely make for a better photo. It is important to rise to the occasion! Smile in the mirror for practice, and I do mean experiment and practice until you find what is working for you. After you figure out what works and do it every time, as if you were batting or driving on a golf course. Get in your stance; know what works and use it! Remember, “Suffering is optional.”- Dr. Cie
